Interpretation of the Files about Kampu Gonchog Chongnyi, a Tibetan Abbot Stationed in Beijing

During the period of the Republic of China, the relation between the Tibetan local authorities and the central authorities was passing through troublesome times. Under the circumstances the function of Kampus, the Tibetan abbots stationed in mainland China had greater importance, as they could be as a bridge to connect local and central authorities. During the period of the Republic of China, Gonchog Chongnyi was a Tibetan abbot stationed in Beijing and Nanjing, so he used to commute between Lhasa and Beijing, Lhasa and Nanjing. Among the abbots he was a principal figure and distinctive representative. In some files of the Republic of China about Tibet there are some records of his activities. To interpret the files is of great significance to study the relation between the Tibetan local authorities and the central authorities during the period of the Republic of China.
