| Abstract: | This paper mainly discusses the relationship between the cultural characteristics and urban design in the city, as a component of "On City". That is the relationship between design and urban context also. The author thinks of the comprehensive culture of the city as the expression of accumulation, sediment and change during the historical development of the city; of the social conception and behaviour of the people; of the nature and scale of the city; of the modern technology and faciltities; and in a sense, of the general quality of the administrators, planners and designers in the different periods of the history. This article also disscusses the influences of the infrastructure on the cultural characteristics of the city, and also makes an inquiry into the relationship between the nature, quality and style. Finally the author puts forward some new concepts and relates them with some excellent designs. |
