| Abstract: | A multiple time scale method is used to study the evolution of the single soliton solution for the nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equation in the presence of small perturbation. Adiabatic evolution equations for the soliton parameters are derived to the first order in the perturbation. This theory is shown to be more concise and convenient than the inverse scattering theory and the variational perturbation method usually used and is easily generalized for dealing with multi-soliton perturbation. |
