Research on the gaining channels of the vocabulary such as "the fine arts" and so on by Cai Yuan-pei

Cai Yuan-pei is one of the earliest promoters and users of the expression "the fine arts"in modern China.By inspecting the channel through which Cai Yuan-pei came to know the expression,we may understand the way that the vocabulary about the fine arts and the aesthetic discipline were first introduced into modern China.Reading and associating with the Japanese are the main channels for Cai Yuan-pei to gain new knowledge.The former enlarged his scope of thinking and knowledge while the latter enabled him to get the advantage of accessing to the source of modern knowledge.Through the two channels,Cai Yuan-pei understood"the fine arts"from the perspective of education at a relatively early period of time.
