| Abstract: | Improved staff performance appraisal within Shanghai Container Terminals Limited( SCT), a joint venture between Shanghai and Hong Kong, is studied in this paper . It is described how SCT has been applying performance appraisal techniques and measures that make actual connections between appraisal and rewards on the basis of its situation. Further, effects of the development of appraisal methods in joint ventures in China is explored. In addition, it is proposed that national culture is one of the important factors influencing effectiveness of performance appraisal |
