| Abstract: | In this paper, the concepts about the 3D GIS and virtual reality are introduced, with the advantage of virtual reality and 3D GIS application in urban planning and design included. The architecture of a virtual environment for urban planning, which is built on the virtual reality, distributed 3D geographic information system and urban planning system, is discussed. Then, the data model and computing model of the virtual environment are proposed. At last, the configuration of a virtual planning environment for evaluation of urban planning is given out. |
