比较多元系统理论和关联理论对翻译策略选择的指导作用

多元系统理论和关联理论对于翻译策略的选择有指导作用,但是,多元系统理论在用于翻译策略选择时由于忽略了译者的主体地位,忽略了读者期待,无法解释一些文化负载文本和实用文体文本翻译策略,因而不具有理论的普遍适用性。同时,关联理论的两个重要概念语境匹配和释意相似具有内在的逻辑关系,以语境匹配为翻译目的,以释意相似作为翻译策略,可以解决多元系统理论所不能解决的翻译策略问题,从而更好地指导翻译策略的选择。

A Comparison of Polysystem Theory and Relevance Theory from the Perspective of Guiding Translation Strategy

This paper compares polysystem theory and relevance theory in terms of guiding translation strategy. It points out that polysystem theory falls short of guiding translation strategy in three aspects--the ignorance of the subjective initiative of translators, the neglect of the expectations of target audience and its failure to be applied to the translation of some culture-loaded texts and function-oriented texts. Whereas relevance theory, with the very important concepts--context matching and interpretive resemblance, can offer a satisfactory answer to translation strategy. To be explicit, it is found that context matching and interpretive resemblance are logically interrelated and they can work as translation aim and translation strategy respectively.
