Abstract:Seven mutants were obtained when Rhodopseudomonas sphaeroides was mutated by treatment of N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitro-soguanidine and acridine through an orthogonal arrays test. Strain No. P51146 was selected as the ideal mutant which could be used to remove COD_(cr) for 72.13% in 72 hours when the starting concentration of COD_(cr) was 2477 mg/l. This rate was 18.62% higher than starting strain P51100. The bean product wastewater with COD_(cr) 3264 mg/l was treated by P51146 stuain for 72 hours; 2574 mg/ l COD_(cr) was removed from the wastewater. That was 1.3 times as much as P51100. The mutagenic conditions for getting mutant P51146 were:1000 mg/l N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine, 250 mg/ 1 acridine, pH 7 and mutagenic treatment for 30 minutes.
