| Abstract: | Modern American situation comedies （sitcoms） contain a rich corpus of humor. This paper attempts to analyze the humorous dialogues in modern American sitcoms on the basis of Grice＇ s Cooperative Principle （ CP）, and then reveal how the humor is produced by violating the Cooperative Principle, which may help Chinese people have a deeper understanding and appreciation of humor in Modem American sitcoms. |
