英汉情态动词的情态意义对比分析——以“must”和“必”为例

英语的情态动词“must”和汉语的情态动词“必”在情态意义的表达上表现出一些共性特征，都可以表示义务情态意义和认识情态意义。但是，由于制约情态动词的意义选择的因素有很多，这两个情态动词同时在语义表达上也存在着个性的差异。通过对比这两个情态动词分别在认识情态意义和道义情态意义上的具体不同，能对情态动词的教学有所启示，以便帮助英语学习者更好地理解并运用情态动词。

A Modality Comparison of English and Chinese Modal Verbs -Taking ＂must＂ and ＂bi＂ for Example

The English modal verb ＂must＂ and Chinese modal verb ＂bi＂ bear some common features in the expression of modality, denoting both epistemic and deontic meanings. But they also show their unique semantic meanings owing to the diverse factors in expressing the modality. Based on the comparison of the particular different usages of these two modal verbs in expressing epistemic and deontic meanings, it is expected to get some insights into the modal verb teaching in China and thus help English learners to better their understand and correct their usage of the modal verb.
