| Abstract: | This paper presents the application of reliability concepts to concrete pavement structure. The fatigue life of concrete slab is assumed to follow two-parameter Weibull distribution, and reliability formula is then derived by using "interference theory". A numerical integration method, Hermite formula, is used to obtain the mean and the variance of fatigue life. Sensitivity analysis shows that the pavement design reliability is significantly influenced by the variation of concrete modulus of rupture. A recommended range of coefficient of variations for various random variables at three variability levels is proposed. A probabilistic approach for structural design of concrete pavement is proposed by introducing a "reliability factor". |
