| Abstract: | There exist two different views on calculating the virtual pitch diameter of screw thread, one considers it should be calculated from the pitch diameter, and the other stands for that from the simple pitch diameter. By theoretical analysis and experimental verification, this paper derives a set of new formulas for calculating the relations between the pitch diameter, the simple pitch diameter and the virtual pitch diameter. These formulas provide a reasonable method to settle the dispute. In addition, the cause of the error in the formula given by N. P. L. in Britian is found. |
