世俗批判的现代性意义——试论柏杨杂文的思想品格

柏杨在内地的影响一直与80年代的反传统思潮联系在一起,成为反传统思想中最敏锐的观点和论据,也被这股思潮所符号化.但柏杨的文化批判并不具有我们惯常理解的明确的和强烈的政治意向,而更重要的在于国民性揭示,在于他立足于民间的立场,进行世俗的现代性建构.柏杨始终是站立在世俗社会的立场上来发言,他不是要驯化世俗社会,而是试图建构一个本真性的世俗社会,而现代性的民族国家应该是这个本真性的世俗社会的合理延伸.他不是把世俗社会提升到精英社会的水准,他首先是要建构本真性的世俗社会,其次是要把精英社会拉到这个世俗社会的水准上.从他最经常讨论的主题(例如国民性批判、道德风习、平等正义),可以看出他的杂文的批判精神紧紧地贴近世俗社会.

The Modern Significance of Secular Criticism--On the Ideological Character of Bo Yang's Essays

Bo Yang's influence on the Chinese mainland has been closely associated with the anti-traditional ideological trend of the 1980s, functioning as a theoretical argument and sign for anti-traditional ideas. But, his cultural criticism does not have strong political intentions as what people usually take for granted, but more importantly focuses on the revelation of national character, on his civic stance, and on his secular construction of modernity. From the perspective of a secular society, he is not to transform its secular nature, but tries to construct a society of authenticity, of which a modern nation-state is an extension. Instead of upgrading the secular society to an elite level, he first aims to build a secular society of authenticity, and then to bring the elite society to the secular level.
