英汉恭维语的功能及使用

恭维语是一种言语交际行为，它具有重要的社会功能，是人们用以维系和促进各种人际关系的重要手段。英汉恭维语还具有其他的功能，在不同的社会语境中起到不同的作用。通过对比分析，发现英汉恭维语在其功能、使用和制约因素等方面有共同之处，但由于中西方文化取向、价值观念等方面的差异，英汉恭维语在使用方面也存在着很大差异。

The Functions and Use of English and Chinese Compliments

Compliments, as an important speech act, exist globally and occur in all languages. The major function of compliments is to establish and maintain social rapport and smoothness between participants. There are other important functions of English and Chinese compliments in different social contexts. It is found that there are similarities between English and Chinese compliments in the aspects of the functions, use and social constraining factors. But great differences do exist because of the striking differences between English and Chinese cultures and values.
