Method and Character of Augury in Annals of Wu and Yue

Augury is the important part of Chinese traditional culture. In Annals of Wu and Yue, the author added many auguries when transcribing the preceding history books, which increased the characteristic of mysterious, and established its status in history of Chinese historiography and the literary history. From those records about auguries in Annals of Wu and Yue, we can learn that the means of augury were influenced by Han Dynasty＇s five element theory and the cultural integration between the Central Plains culture and the culture of the Wu and Yue during the period from the Spring and Autumn Period to Han Dynasty. We can also learn that the typical features of augury reflected obvious folk customs in the region once belonged to the state of Yue.
