战国中期以前,中国的含义有二:指王政与霸政时代王者及诸侯所居的都邑;二指春秋以来文明开化翟度较高的若干中原城邦.自邹衍提出"中国名日赤县神州"的大九州说命题后,中国与赤县神州二概念.因属同一关系,中国又赋有了专有名词的性质及义项.中国天下一统观念发端于老子的一元论世界现.墨家学派首次提出并系统论证了"从事乎一同天下之义"的政治理念.战国中后期,秦欲称帝中国的舆论影响日深,战国混战不休的局面,终为秦的中国政治一体化进程所替代.
