Distinguished cultural background and aesthetic thinking lead to the difference between Chinese and western gardening in styles and various features of gardening art. In general, Chinese gardening, basically of sensibility and impressionistic style, lies in nature, wild interests, emotion and imagination, even the taste of ＂finite words and infinite emotion＂, ＂man -made, but more natural＂ ; while the western gardening, generally of reason, realistic style, lies in man - made, pattern, order, law, whose inborn admiration for reasonable thinking brings gardening into a definite, accurate and precise scientific concept. The paper is a comparative analysis on Chinese and western gardening＇ s art style and aesthetic thinking with the attempt to subserve the inheritance and development of traditional gardening art.
