Accumulation of indole glucosinolates inPsylliodes chrysocephala L.-infested,or-damaged tissues of oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.)

Summary Infestation of oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) by the cabbage stem flea beetle (Psylliodes chrysocephala L.) leads to an overall reduction in the levels of aliphatic (alkenyl- and hydroxyalkenyl-) glucosinolates in the damaged tissue (lamina, petiole, stem) and a massive accumulation of indole glucosinolates. Whilst artificial damage (puncturing), with and without associated bacterial infection with an isolate fromP. chrysocephala, led to such accumulation, this was less than that observed in the insect-infected situation.     

Organization of microtubules in dendrites and axons is determined by a short hydrophobic zipper in microtubule-associated proteins MAP2 and tau

Here we report that the microtubule-associated proteins MAP2 and tau share two separable functional domains. One is the microtubule-binding site which serves to nucleate microtubule assembly; the second is a short C-terminal alpha-helical sequence which can crosslink microtubules by means of a hydrophobic zipper interaction into dense stable parallel arrays characteristic of axons or dendrites. Thus, interactions between molecules of a single type are capable of drastically reorganizing microtubules and completely suppressing their dynamic properties.

Zusammenfassung Der bei der Bestrahlung mit ionisierenden Strahlen auftretende Sättigungseffekt, d.h. die Abweichung von der Linearität des Verhältnisses zwischen der Strahlendosis und der Zahl der geschädigten Molekeln bei höheren Dosisleistungen, wird unter Zugrundelegung eines einfachen Modells, welches sowohl die Erzeugung als auch die Rekombination der Strahlenschäden berücksichtigt, mathematisch beschrieben.
