Potentiating action of hexoprenaline on14C-aminopyrine uptake by isolated rat parietal cells

Summary Hexoprenaline potentiated the¹⁴C-aminopyrine uptake (a reliable index of H⁺ generation) of isolated rat gastric cells stimulated by 10^–6–10^–4 mol/l carbachol, and inhibited that in response to 10^–4 mol/l histamine without and in the presence of propranolol. It is concluded that hexoprenaline acts as a partial agonist on parietal cell H₂-receptors and that -adrenoceptor activation may functionally modualte gastric acid secretion.Acknowledgments. S. A prostaglandin-like activity in small intestine and postirradiation gastrointestinal syndrome

Summary A correlation between the postirradiation increase of the small intestine motility and the prostaglandin-like activity in this organ during gastrointestinal syndrome was observed. Indomethacin decreased the elevated motility of intestine and reduced the prostaglandin-like activity in this syndrome.Acknowledgments. The work was supported by the Polish Academy of Sciences.     

Pyruvate kinase inhibited by L-cysteine as a marker of tumorigenic human urothelial cell lines

Summary It was found that a decrease in electrophoretic mobility of pyruvate kinase (PK) isoenzyme, and an increase of the sensitivity of this enzyme to L-cysteine, were markers of immortalization and tumorigenic properties, respectively, in human urothelial cell lines characterized by different grades of transformation (TGr) in vitro.

The effect of noradrenaline on heat production in the new-born pig

Résumé La production de chaleur, la température du corps et du QR de 6 porcelets âgés de 4 à 13 jours, avant et après l'injection s.c. de noradrénaline (200 g/kg) ont été déterminées. On n'a pas constaté l'effet de l'injection de noradrénaline sur les animaux de 4–6 jours, pendant que le métabolisme et la température du rectum des porcelets âgés de 11–13 jours augmentaient distinctement, et que la valeur du QR a baissait significativement.

The effects of intraperitoneal adaptation to histamine on the anaphylactic shock in the guinea-pig

Résumé Les cobayes adaptés à l'histamine par voie intrapéritonéale sont protégés contre le choc anaphylactique. Les mécanismes périphériques de la résistance sont discutés.     

A pyruvate kinase variant in different mouse transplanted tumors

Summary Mouse transplanted tumors, in contrast to normal tissues, contain a pyruvate kinase (PK) variant sensitive to the inhibitory action of L-cysteine and less sensitive to saturated fatty acids than the normal enzyme. In selected normal and tumor materials two fractions of PK were separated. Fraction A (20–30% (NH₄)₂SO₄ saturation) dominated in normal liver, and fraction B (50–60% (NH₄)₂SO₄ saturation) in skeletal muscles and Ehrlich ascites tumor. Only this fraction B from tumor material was sensitive to L-cysteine, and seems to contain a tumor-specific PK variant which might be considered as a marker of neoplastic transformation in a broad spectrum of mouse experimental tumors.     

The effect of intraventricular thyroxine administration on body temperature in dogs at rest and during physical exercise

Summary Infusion of 1 g thyroxine into the left cerebral ventricle of the dog did not change body temperature at rest, but it caused significantly higher increases in T_re during physical exercise.     

Neuropeptide Y inhibits corticosterone secretion by isolated rat adrenocortical cells

Summary Studies with isolated rat adrenocortical cells have shown that neuropeptide Y (NPY) inhibits both basal and ACTH-stimulated corticosterone secretion. These results suggest the regulatory role of NPY in corticosterone secretion from the adrenal gland, especially during stress.Supported in part by a grant CPBP 06.03.3.16.
