To identify renally expressed genes that influence risk for hypertension, we integrated expression quantitative trait locus (QTL) analysis of the kidney with genome-wide correlation analysis of renal expression profiles and blood pressure in recombinant inbred strains derived from the spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR). This strategy, together with renal transplantation studies in SHR progenitor, transgenic and congenic strains, identified deficient renal expression of Cd36 encoding fatty acid translocase as a genetically determined risk factor for spontaneous hypertension.  相似文献

Acquired immunity in vertebrates is characterized by immunological memory and specificity, whereas the innate defence systems of invertebrates are assumed to have no specific memory. Here we use a model system of a copepod, which is a minute crustacean, and a parasitic tapeworm to show that the success of reinfection depends on the antigenic resemblance between the consecutively encountered parasites. This finding indicates that an invertebrate defence system may be capable of specific memory.  相似文献

The Classification Literature Automated Search Service, an annual bibliography based on citation of one or more of a set of around 80 book or journal publications, ran from 1972 to 2012. We analyze here the years 1994 to 2012. The Classification Society’s Service, as it was termed, was produced by the Classification Society. In earlier decades it was distributed as a diskette or CD with the Journal of Classification. Among our findings are the following: an enormous increase in scholarly production in this area post approximately 2000; and another big increase in quantity of publications from approximately 2004. The over 93,000 bibliographic records used is the basis for determining the research disciplines that we analyze. We make all this data available for download, formatted in text and in XML, with an accompanying Apache Lucene/Solr search interface.  相似文献

Normal sensory transduction requires the efficient disposal of acid (H+) generated by neuronal and sensory receptor activity. Multiple highly sensitive transport mechanisms have evolved in prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms to maintain acidity within strict limits. It is currently assumed that the multiplicity of these processes provides a biological robustness. Here we report that the visual and auditory systems have a specific requirement for H+ disposal mediated by the sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBC3 (refs. 7,8). Mice lacking NBC3 develop blindness and auditory impairment because of degeneration of sensory receptors in the eye and inner ear as in Usher syndrome. Our results indicate that in certain sensory organs, in which the requirement to transduce specific environmental signals with speed, sensitivity and reliability is paramount, the choice of the H+ disposal mechanism used is limited.  相似文献

Two different genes coding for the hormonally regulated rat liver protein alpha 2u globulin were introduced into mouse Ltk- cells through co-transfection with the HSV-1 thymidine kinase gene. Three to ten copies of the alpha 2u globulin genes were detected several tk+ clones, over 50% of which could be induced with dexamethasone, the produce alha 2u globulin mRNA and protein. This suggests that the information necessary for hormonal response is contained in the DNA fragment used for transfer.  相似文献

Spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) display several features of the human insulin-resistance syndromes. Cd36 deficiency is genetically linked to insulin resistance in SHR. We show that transgenic expression of Cd36 in SHR ameliorates insulin resistance and lowers serum fatty acids. Our results provide direct evidence that Cd36 deficiency can promote defective insulin action and disordered fatty-acid metabolism in spontaneous hypertension.  相似文献
