Mutations in the desmosomal protein plakophilin-2 are common in arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy

Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) is associated with fibrofatty replacement of cardiac myocytes, ventricular tachyarrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. In 32 of 120 unrelated individuals with ARVC, we identified heterozygous mutations in PKP2, which encodes plakophilin-2, an essential armadillo-repeat protein of the cardiac desmosome. In two kindreds with ARVC, disease was incompletely penetrant in most carriers of PKP2 mutations.     

Concerning the anchoring of acetylcholinesterase in biomembranes

Summary Highly purified acetylcholinesterases from various sources do not contain hydroxyproline and hydroxylysine, indicating the absence of a collagenlike tail. The enzymes examined are therefore bound to the membrane in a different way compared with acetylcholinesterase isolated from electric organ.

Zusammenfassung In Kulturfiltraten vonCercosporella herpotrichoides, dem Erreger der Halmbruchkrankheit des Weizens, wurden folgende Enzyme nachgewiesen: Polygalacturonase, Pektinmethylesterase, Pektin-Lyase und Cellulase. Es wird vermutet, dass diese Enzyme, die in einigen Eigenschaften kurz charakterisiert werden, für die Pathogenese von Bedeutung sind.
