The amino acid sequence of the agglutinin isolated from the red marine alga Bryothamnion triquetrum defines a novel lectin structure

The primary structure of a lectin isolated from the red alga Bryothamnion triquetrum was established by combination of Edman degradation of sets of overlapping peptides and mass spectrometry. It contains 91 amino acids and two disulphide bonds. The primary structure of the B. triquetrum lectin does not show amino acid sequence similarity with known plant and animal lectin structures. Hence, this protein may be the paradigm of a novel lectin family.

Hydrolysis of histones by horse urinary kallikreins

Summary Horse urinary kallikrein was shown to hydrolyze histones from calf thymus and chicken nuclei erythrocytes. Cardiovascular development: towards biomedical applicability

Research in animal models established that tinman, a key gene in Drosophila dorsal vessel development, is an orthologue of Nkx2-5, a key gene in vertebrate cardiac development. Similarities between the arthropod dorsal vessel and vertebrate hearts are interpreted in light of concepts such as homology or convergence. We discuss this controversy in the context of the evolution of animal circulatory pumps and propose the distinction between peristaltic and chambered pumps as a fundamental parameter for evolutionary comparisons between bilaterian pumps. Neither homology nor convergence is satisfactory to explain the origins of hearts and pumping organs. Instead, we propose that animal pumps derive from parallel improvements of an ancestral, peristaltic design represented by a layer of myocytes at the external walls of primitive vessels. This paradigm unifies disparate views, impacts our understanding of bilaterian evolution and may be helpful to interpret similarities between pumping organs of phylogenetically relevant species and emerging models.

Potentiation of histamine and inhibition of diamine oxidase by mescaline

Zusammenfassung Anhand zweier Versuchsanordnungen wird gezeigt, dass Meskalin Histaminwirkungen verstärken kann. Ausserdem vermag es die Histamin zerstörende Wirkung der Diaminooxydase zu hemmen (in 10^–5-molarer Konzentration).Es wird die Möglichkeit diskutiert, dass diese Eigenschaften mit der 4-Methoxyphenyl-äthylamin-Struktur des Meskalins in Zusammenhang stehen könnten.     

鲁克沁构造带稠油成藏机制研究

吐哈盆地台南凹陷鲁克沁构造带中的北西走向断层受挤压强烈 ,封闭性好 ;而北东走向断层封闭性差 ,常成为油气运移的良好通道。由于本区断块圈闭的有效性差 ,故不具备大规模聚集稀油的条件 ,但对稠变到一定程度的稠油能起较好的封堵作用。鲁克沁构造带高粘重质油的形成是原油运移和成藏阶段双重稠变作用的结果 ,并且油气的聚集是一个动态的过程。随着原油的逐渐稠变 ,所需要的封堵条件逐渐降低 ,油气的聚集过程才趋于稳定。鲁克沁构造带构造后期变革主要表现在构造幅度的增大 ,而未发生强烈的断裂作用 ,因此 ,前侏罗系油藏得以完好地保存     

求取剩余油饱和度的一种实用方法

分析了水驱油田地质、测井及开发动态特征，提出了用生产井含水率资料结合测井资料求取产层平均剩余油饱和度的方法。阐述了该方法的基本模型和计算过程，并以实例计算说明了这种方法的实际应用效果。结果表明，该方法操作简便、实用性强、计算结果可靠，且能准确反映储层的剩余油分布特征。这种方法也避免了水淹层混合液电阻率、岩电系数和水淹层电阻率求取值失真的影响。     

Lack of Na+,K+-ATPase expression in intercalated cells may be compensated by Na+-ATPase: A study on MDCK – C11 cells

The lack of Na⁺,K⁺-ATPase expression in intercalated cells (IC) is an intriguing condition due to its fundamental role in cellular homeostasis. In order to better understand this question we compared the activities of Na⁺,K⁺-ATPase and Na⁺-ATPase in two MDCK cell clones: the C11, with IC characteristics, and the C7, with principal cells (PC) characteristics. The Na⁺,K⁺-ATPase activity found in C11 cells is far lower than in C7 cells and the expression of its β-subunit is similar in both cells. On the other hand, a subset of C11 without α-subunit expression has been found. In C11 cells the Na⁺-ATPase activity is higher than that of the Na⁺,K⁺-ATPase, and it is increased by medium alkalinization, suggesting that it could account for the cellular Na⁺-homeostasis. Although further studies are necessary for a better understanding of these findings, the presence of Na⁺-ATPase may explain the adequate survival of cells that lack Na⁺,K⁺-ATPase.
