Reciprocal changes in serum free thyroxine fraction and thyrotropin level after administration of thiocyanate to rats

Summary The administration of thiocyanate to rats caused a significant increase of serum free thyroxine fraction, which coincided with the significant decrease of TSH level. The other components (AFT₄, T₄, T₃) in serum at this time were decreased or unchanged. The finding suggests the role of free thyroxine fraction in feed-back regulation of TSH secretion.Acknowledgment. We thank Dr A. Some properties of the goat placental lactogen

Summary Goat placental lactogen was partially purified from a medium collected after placental tissue incubation. The data obtained by disc electrophoresis and isoelectric focusing experiments, as well as by means of radioreceptor assay methods, provide evidence of the similarity between the goat and ovine placental lactogen.The careful technical assistance of L. Tichovská is gratefuly acknowledged.     

Effect of dibutyryl cAMP and theophylline on cultured rat embryonic shields

Summary Effects of N⁶, O² dibutyryl adenosine 3,5-cyclic monophosphate (db-cAMP) and theophylline (Th) on cultured rat embryonic shields were studied. After addition of db-cAMP to the culture medium, an increase of the weight of explants and of the incidence of the skeletal muscle was observed. Theophylline seems to be ineffective.     

Differentiation in renal homografts of isolated parts of rat embryonic ectoderm

Summary The central and the peripheral areas of the head-fold stage rat embryo ectoderm develop into both the neural tissue and the epidermis when grafted under the kidney capsule of adult rats.This investigation was supported by the grant No. IV/3 from the Research Foundation of S.R. The effect of various diuretic agents on renal electrolyte and urea concentration gradients in rats

Zusammenfassung Die Konzentrationsgradienten von Na+und Harnstoff im Rattennierengewebe werden durch intravenöse Applikation von Merallurid, Salyrgan und Hydrochlorothiazid nicht beeinflusst. Die Änderung des Na-Gradienten nach Aminophyllin hängt von der Injektionszeit ab. Acetazolamid-, Chlorothiazid- und Furosemid-Injektion führt jedoch zur Senkung oder zum Verschwinden eines Na-Gradienten. Die Kaliumkonzentration in der Rinde und Papilla wird durch Hg- und Sulfonamid-Diuretica erniedrigt.     

Does nitrogen mustard mimic the X-ray effects in any case?

Résumé Les effets de l'ypérite nitrée sur le cerveau et yeux de l'embryon du rat blanc ont été analysés. Seulement les embryons présentant un aspect normal ont été coupés et colorés. De larges centres de nécrose ont été trouvés sur les coupes tandis que les «rosettes» n'ont pas pu être décelées.Bien que connue comme radiomimétique, l'yperite nitrée ne mime pas les rayons X en ce qui concerne la formation des «rosettes» dans le cerveau.     

The evaluation of biologically active supernatants of cultures of lymphoid cells from rabbits with delayed (cellular) hypersensitivity on a macrophage layer

Zusammenfassung Supernatanten aus Kulturen überempfindlicher Lymphozyten und dem spezifischen Antigen mit MIF-Aktivität können die Entstehung der Pseudopodien normaler Makrophagen verhindern und zeigen nach längerem Kultivieren zuweilen toxische Eigenschaften.     

The role of calcitonin in hypocalcemia in acute experimental pancreatitis

Summary Experimental pancreatitis in rats was accompanied by hypocalcemia. Thyroidectomy did not abolish the fall in serum calcium observed in intact animals during pancreatitis. Data presented in our study suggest that the thyroid gland and calcitonin are not important factors in causing the hypocalcemia observed in rats.
