Convergence of the majorization method for multidimensional scaling

In this paper we study the convergence properties of an important class of multidimensional scaling algorithms. We unify and extend earlier qualitative results on convergence, which tell us when the algorithms are convergent. In order to prove global convergence results we use the majorization method. We also derive, for the first time, some quantitative convergence theorems, which give information about the speed of convergence. It turns out that in almost all cases convergence is linear, with a convergence rate close to unity. This has the practical consequence that convergence will usually be very slow, and this makes techniques to speed up convergence very important. It is pointed out that step-size techniques will generally not succeed in producing marked improvements in this respect.     

Feulgen-DNA amounts and karyotype lengths of three planarian species of the genusDugesia

Summary Genome sizes of the planariansD. lugubris (2n=8),D. polychroa (2n=8) andD. benazzii (2n=16) were evaluated on metaphase plates by measuring both the Feulgen-DNA contents and the karyotype lengths. In the three species, genome sizes are significantly different; this finding rules out the possibility of a karyotype evolution through simple chromosome rearrangements betweenD. lugubris andD. polychroa. A different Feulgen-DNA content per unit length of karyotype in the three species studied was also found, which suggests that DNA could be differently packed along metaphase chromosomes.

单季戊四醇与双季戊四醇的分离工艺

研究了单季戊四醇（Pentarerythritol，以下简称PE），双季戊四醇(Dipentaerythritol，以下简称DPE）混合物的分离工艺，结果表明，在PE：DPE=1.2：1（mol:mol）的条件下，PE与DPE的分离率不仅与结晶温度有关，而且结晶时间也有很大影响，30℃时，分离率随结晶时间的变化出现了最佳值，而0℃时分离率在一段结晶时间内保持不变，为80%左右；在0℃，30℃时，分离率随结晶时间出现极小值和极大值，这种复杂的关系与PE和DPE之间形成的复合物的种类有关。研究还表明，在分离过程中，DPE的结晶颗粒也发生了变化，结晶时间短，颗粒小，时间延长，小颗粒和大颗粒并存。
