Sex chromatin analysis of unstained mouse amniotic cells using brightfield microscopy

Summary Sex chromatin of unstained mouse amniotic cells was identifiable using ordinary brightfield microscopy with optimal setting of the illumination.     

Myopathic changes at the end-plate region induced by neostigmine methylsulfate

Summary Administration of large dose of neostigmine caused very quickly marked myopathic changes at the motor end-plate region. With continued injections, however some recovery of the structural features did occur suggesting the reconstructive changes in the affected regions.Acknowledgment. Lowering of liver acetaldehyde but not ethanol concentrations by pretreatment with taurine in ehtanol-loaded rats

Summary A rise in blood and liver acetaldehyde concentrations following ethanol loading (1.5 g/kg b.wt) was significantly reduced when rats were pretreated orally with taurine (0.5 g/kg), a potent in vitro activator of yeast aldehyde dehydrogenase. This taurine pretreatment produced a 4-fold increase in liver taurine content.     

The c-mos proto-oncogene product is a cytostatic factor responsible for meiotic arrest in vertebrate eggs

The c-mos proto-oncogene product, pp39mos, is present in unfertilized Xenopus eggs, and disappears on fertilization. Microinjection of synthetic mos RNA into two-cell embryos induces cleavage arrest at metaphase. By contrast, egg cytosol extracts, when immunodepleted of endogenous pp39mos, lose their cleavage-arresting activity in injected embryos. These results demonstrate that Mos protein is the cytostatic factor CSF, long known as an endogenous meiotic inhibitor in vertebrate eggs.
