Changes in the activities of protein kinase modulators in the cerebellum of mice due to ethanol, caffeine, or phenobarbital administration.

Decreased activities of both the inhibitory modulator of adenosine 3':5'-monophosphate (cAMP)-dependent protein kinase (A-PK) as well as the stimulatory modulator of guanosine 3':5'-monophosphate (cGMP)-dependent protein kinase (G-PK) from the mouse cerebellum were noted due to the administration of excessive doses of ethanol, caffeine, and phenobarbital for up to 28 days. The dose-dependent of the inhibition of A-PK or the stimulation of G-PK was observed as a function of the amount of protein kinase modulators in the cerebellum of mice receiving different doses of ethanol.     

Irreversible inhibition of sodium transport by the toad urinary bladder following photolysis of amiloride analogs

Summary Active sodium transport was completely and irreversibly inhibited in toad urinary bladders photolyzed in the presence of iodeam loride.     

Inhibitors of the acrosomal proteinase acrosin: Human urinary trypsin inhibitor (UTI) and 4-(2-carboxyethyl) phenyl trans 4-aminomethylcyclohexanecarboxylate hydrochloride (DV-1006)

Summary Human urinary trypsin inhibitor (UTI) and (4-(2-carboxyethyl) phenyl trans 4-aminoethylcyclohexanecarboxylate hydrochloride (DV-1006) competitively inhibited the human acrosomal proteinase acrosin; Ki values were 1.2×10^–8M and 9.4×10^–7 M, respectively.     

Hormonal manipulation of carrageenin-induced pyresis in rats

Summary The intensity of the hyperthermic response in rats promoted by subplantar injection of 1 mg of carrageenin is directly related to the irritant properties of the type of carrageenin. The overall pyretic response is more dramatic in female rats than in male rats. Subtle changes in the time-course hyperthermic profiles are seen after hormonal modifications.This work was supported by NIH, MBS research grant No. RR08111.     

A rapid micro radial electrophoretic method of protein separation on cellulose acetate membranes.

A new rapid micromethod for protein separation under a radial electric field is described. As many as 12 rabbit serum samples could be separated in 4--6 min.     

Measurement of orientation responses of caterpillars indoors and outdoors on a grid
