Over the past decade, diagnostic classification models (DCMs) have become an active area of psychometric research. Despite their use, the reliability of examinee estimates in DCM applications has seldom been reported. In this paper, a reliability measure for the categorical latent variables of DCMs is defined. Using theory-and simulation-based results, we show how DCMs uniformly provide greater examinee estimate reliability than IRT models for tests of the same length, a result that is a consequence of the smaller range of latent variable values examinee estimates can take in DCMs. We demonstrate this result by comparing DCM and IRT reliability for a series of models estimated with data from an end-of-grade test, culminating with a discussion of how DCMs can be used to change the character of large scale testing, either by shortening tests that measure examinees unidimensionally or by providing more reliable multidimensional measurement for tests of the same length.  相似文献

The role of major mutations in adaptive evolution has been debated for more than a century. The classical view is that adaptive mutations are nearly infinite in number with infinitesimally small phenotypic effect, but recent theory suggests otherwise. To provide empirical estimates of the magnitude of adaptive mutations in wild plants, we conducted field studies to determine the adaptive value of alternative alleles at a single locus, YELLOW UPPER (YUP). YUP controls the presence or absence of yellow carotenoid pigments in the petals of pink-flowered Mimulus lewisii, which is pollinated by bumblebees, and its red-flowered sister species M. cardinalis, which is pollinated by hummingbirds. We bred near-isogenic lines (NILs) in which the YUP allele from each species was substituted into the other. M. cardinalis NILs with the M. lewisii YUP allele had dark pink flowers and received 74-fold more bee visits than the wild type, whereas M. lewisii NILs with the M. cardinalis yup allele had yellow-orange flowers and received 68-fold more hummingbird visits than the wild type. These results indicate that an adaptive shift in pollinator preference may be initiated by a single major mutation.  相似文献

Summary The major components of the sex pheromone system ofPanolis flammea, pine beauty moth have been identified as (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate, (Z)-11-hexadecenyl acetate and (Z)-11-tetradecenyl acetate in the ratio 10051; the double bond position of these derivatives was established by microscale application of a methoxymercuration-demercuration technique and GC-MS followed by multiple ion monitoring.We thank the Science Research Council and Forestry Commission for financial support. DNA damage surveillance networks in human cells can activate DNA repair, cell cycle checkpoints and apoptosis in response to fewer than four double-strand breaks (DSBs) per genome. These same networks tolerate telomeres, in part because the protein TRF2 prevents recognition of telomeric ends as DSBs by facilitating their organization into T loops. We now show that TRF2 associates with photo-induced DSBs in nontelomeric DNA in human fibroblasts within 2 s of irradiation. Unlike gammaH2AX, a common marker for DSB damage, TRF2 forms transient foci that colocalize closely with DSBs. The TRF2 DSB response requires the TRF2 basic domain but not its Myb domain and occurs in the absence of functional ATM and DNA-PK protein kinases, MRE11/Rad50/NBS1 complex and Ku70, WRN and BLM repair proteins. Furthermore, overexpression of TRF2 inhibits DSB-induced phosphorylation of ATM signaling targets. Our results implicate TRF2 in an initial stage of DSB recognition and processing that occurs before association of ATM with DSBs and activation of the ATM-dependent DSB response network.  相似文献

Summary The relative contributions of electro-osmosis and iontophoresis to the electrophoretic release of noradrenaline from micropipettes were examined.
