Occurrence of mitochondrial monoamine oxidase in human semen.

Mitochondrial monoamine oxidase (MAO) was found in human semen, showing its Km and Vmax values of 91.7 microM and 290 pmoles/mg of protein/60 min, respectively, with kynuramine as substrate. A major part of the activity was due to type A MAO.

Zusammenfassung Ethrel verhindert den Ruhezustand von «Cabbage»-Salatsamen, der durch hohe Temperaturen verursacht wird. Es wird angenommen, dass die Hemmung der Salatsamenkeimung durch hohe Temperaturen vermittelt wird, besonders durch ihre Wirkung auf die endogene Bildung des Äthylens, welches eine Schlüsselrolle bei der Samenkeimung spielt.     

Oxidation of synephrine by type A and type B monoamine oxidase.

Synephrine (SP) was found to be a substrate for monoamine oxidase (MAO) in rat brain mitochondria, showing the Km and Vmax values of 250 microM and 32.6 nmoles/mg of protein/30 min respectively. The inhibition studies showed that the SP oxidation was carried out by both type A and type B MAO and a major part of the activity was due to type A MAO.

Water regulation in Barmer goat of the Rajasthan desert

Summary The different body fluid compartments in normally watered and 4-day water-deprived goasts of Rajasthan desert, India, were measured in autumn. The goats maintained plasma volume and extracellular fluid volume, but lost gut and cell water considerably under the experimental conditions; indicating that the maintenance of the fluidity of the blood has priority over the body's other fluid requirements in this desert-adapted species during water deprivation.We are indebted to Dr H.S.
