Development of novel and sensitive sensors based on microcantilever of atomic force microscope

Recently, the development of sensors based on microfabricated cantilevers of atomic force microscope (AFM) has attracted considerable attention from the designers of novel physical, chemical, and biological sensors. Many kinds of sensors have been developed taking the advantages of its high-resolution imaging, force measurement and force sensitivity, such as immunosensor and DNA biosensor and the sensors for detection of intermolecular interaction. This paper reviews the progress made in this field and discusses the signal transfer principles by which the design of the sensors is achieved.     

A novel multi-functional cell-based microphysiometer

This paper presents a novel multi-functional microphysiometer for simultaneous measurements of several extracellular ion concentrations and action potential measurement in living cells based on MLAPS (multi-light addressable potentiometric sensor). In the microphysiometer, sorts of sensitive membranes are illuminated in parallel with n light sources at working frequencies, and the response amplitudes of each frequency component can be measured on-line by parallel processing algorithm. In the experiments, the relations of the extracellular environmental H⁺, Na⁺, K⁺, Ca²⁺ under the effects of western medicines (dilantin, phenobarbital sodium) and Chinese drugs (scutellaria, medlar, hemlock parsley) were analyzed, and the effects of several drugs were evaluated. Moreover, the action potential signals of different cell types (cardiac myocytes and neurons) could be measured and analyzed by LAPS. By detecting these parameters, the system can monitor the real-time process of the cell metabolism and action potential, observe the functional responses of different kinds of membrane-bound receptors, and evaluate the activities of drugs.     

Grid GIS and its application in digital city

Digital city is a synthetic project in which large geographic and trade data are involved in, thus data sharing becomes a key problem. Grid GIS is an outcome of integrating GIS and network techniques, it has a lot of characteristic of network technique such as heterogeneous, extensible, dynamic autoadaptable, the multistage management, etc. The advantages of parallel processing of grid computing are obvious when it is used in basic data platform construction of digital city. Studies on molecular interactions between puerarin and PC liposomes

Fluorescence emission spectra, FTIR spectra, zeta potential measurements, and ab initio quantum calculation are used to study the interaction between puerarin and membranes composed of egg phosphatidylcholine (PC) liposome. The hydrophobic interactions cause the puerarin molecule to partition into lipid bilayers with its B-ring, and favor the displacement of acid-base equilibrium of puerarin towards the base form. Due to the hydrogen bond formation between the puerarin hydroxyl groups and polar groups of PC molecules on the water/membrane interface, puerarin can easily intercalate into the organized structure of phospholipids and modulate the membrane function. Our results reveal that the liposome membrane integrity is significantly higher compared with that of empty liposome.     

Three aspects on solving queuing service system in Shanghai world expo

This paper analyzes the queuing problem that was experienced during the Shanghai World Expo of2010.The queuing problem will be discussed at three levels.The three levels include the physical,psychological,and social aspects of the queuing problem.The collective behavior of visitors is studied through analyzing the information from the different sources,such as,the network of electronic eyes,the evaluation platform based on mobile phone system and the Internet.A hybrid information network technology is implemented.Based on the Wuli-Shili-Renli(WSR) system methodology,a new theoretical analysis framework for the queuing problem is proposed.     

Optimal procedure for fitting the magnetic susceptibility vs J couplings

To provide efficiency in calculating the energy-levels of paramagnetic spin clusters with high nuclear -ity, a fitting program of irreducible tensor operator is developed for the calculation of / couplings. An optimal data-access process is given, which greatly enhances the computational aspects of such modeling. Upon the program's application, the coupling constants of the moderate-sized clusters are fitted automatically by the least-squares calculations in PCs.
