Zusammenfassung Die Relation Gehirnmasse/Körpergewicht wurde bei 83 Hunden von Geburt bis zum Adultzustand studiert. Ein Bruch in der linearen Relation zwischen den Logarithmen Gehirngewicht und Körpergewicht trat ungefähr im Alter von vier Wochen ein (1,5 kg Körpergewicht zu 37 g Gehirngewicht). Dies betrifft einen kritischen Punkt in der Neuro-Ontogenie, was im Zusammenhang mit anderen Erscheinungen der ZNS- und Verhaltensentwicklung steht.     

Novel dental pattern in a Mesozoic mammal

Therian mammals have two families of postcanine teeth,premolars and molars, which primitively are morphologically distinct, but within each family, structure of the crowns changes in an evenly graded series from mesial to distal loci. Here we report a new Mesozoic basal therian in which the boundary between premolars and molars istransi tional but the molars form three abruptly discontinuous morphological grouos. containinh m1, m2-4.

The three-dimensional structure of foot-and-mouth disease virus at 2.9 A resolution

The structure of foot-and-mouth disease virus has been determined at close to atomic resolution by X-ray diffraction without experimental phase information. The virus shows similarities with other picornaviruses but also several unique features. The canyon or pit found in other picornaviruses is absent; this has important implications for cell attachment. The most immunogenic portion of the capsid, which acts as a potent peptide vaccine, forms a disordered protrusion on the virus surface.     

Effects of monochromatic X-radiation on the membrane of nodes of Ranvier under voltage and current clamp conditions.

Monochromatic Ag-Ka-radiation decreased irreversibly the peak sodium current in nodes of Ranvier. This decrease occurs only with a delay of about 1000 sec after a threshold dose of about 8 kR has been reached. Potassium current and resting potential are practically not affected.     

Thalidomide malformations and genetic background in the rabbit

Zusammenfassung Thalidomid wurde in Gelatinkapseln peroral (500 mg/Tag/Kaninchen) an 30 gravide Kaninchen vom 6. bis 11. Tag nach Konzeption verabreicht. Von 109 klassifizierbaren Jungen waren nur 4% normal: 77 überlebten, 9 waren tot und 23 wurden abortiert; 20 weitere waren teilweise resorbiert und deshalb unklassifizierbar. Die drei genetisch verschiedenen Kaninchenstämme des Versuchs wiesen signifikante Unterschiede auf in Typus, relativer Zahl und Verteilung der Missbildungen.
