This paper provides an account of the biology of Lissoderes (Coleoptera, Curculionidae, Conoderinae) focusing on L. pusillus Hespenheide and L. subnudus Champion. The eggs, larvae, and pupae live inside the hollow stems of Cecropia saplings. Adult weevils chew through the stem and deposit eggs on the inner surface of the internode. The larvae feed on the parenchyma lining the hollow internodes and pupate inside the internode. Emerging adults chew their way out of the stem. Two hymenopteran parasitoids were reared from larvae and prepupae of L. pusillus: Neocatolaccus sp. (Pteromalidae) and Heterospilus sp. (Braconidae). Menozziola sp. (Diptera, Phoridae) and Conoaxima sp. (Hymenoptera, Eurytomidae) were observed parasitizing Azteca queens. Parasitism by these species may explain part of the high mortality observed in colonizing Azteca queens. Direct competition with L. pusillus and L. subnudus appears not to be a major cause of queen mortality, although possible indirect effects of the weevils remain unknown.  相似文献

Summary

Records of ten species of Sosylus collected in Nigeria are given, with details of distribution, host trees and platypodid associates. The Sosylus fauna of Nigeria appears to lie between that of Ghana and the Congo in species composition. Comment is made on the close association that some Sosylus species have with their platypodid hosts.  相似文献

Eustigmaeus floridensis sp. nov. is described and illustrated based on female specimens collected from citrus trees in Florida, USA. The new species is closely related to Eustigmaeus arcuata, Eustigmaeus segnis and Eustigmaeus microsegnis, all known to occur in Florida. Eustigmaeus floridensis sp. nov. can be distinguished by larger dimples associated with setae sce, d2 and e1 containing at least four or more vacuoles centrally; dorsal body setae broadly lanceolate and feather-like, except c2, which is slender; anogenital area with striae and one pair of serrated aggenital (ag1) and three pairs of serrated pseudanal (ps1?3) setae. A key to the Eustigmaeus species known to occur across USA is also provided.  相似文献

Previously known species of the genus Ceratanisus Gemminger, 1870 are studied, based on a comparison of specimens. This study is a first attempt to scrutinize the composition of this poorly known genus, as a preliminary approach to the tribe Ceratanisini Gebien, 1937. As a result of this study three previously described taxa are recognized as valid species and three new species from Turkey, Ceratanisus selimi sp. nov., Ceratanisus labriquei sp. nov. and Ceratanisus andiberti sp. nov., are described. A key for the separation of the genera of Ceratanisini is presented, including the new species described herein.  相似文献

A new Holarctic subgenus (Fungivenator subgen. nov.) of the genus Colastes Haliday, 1833 (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Exothecinae) is proposed for a group of species that, as far as is known, has its larvae living on hosts in bracket fungi. The type species (Colastes sandei sp. nov. from Netherlands, Germany and England) and a second species (C. fritzeni sp. nov.) from Finland are described and illustrated. A key to the five known species is included.  相似文献

Two new species of rhagidiid mites are described from Oetztal Alps, Tyrol, Troglocheles archetypica n. sp. and T. aggerata n. sp. Their interspecific relationships are discussed and two new species-groups, T. strasseri and T. vornatscheri, are defined. A key to the known adult species of the genus Troglocheles Zacharda is given. Phylogenetic and evolutionary relationships among the known talus- and cave-dwelling species of this genus are briefly outlined, including the possibilities of sympatric versus allopatric speciation.  相似文献

The species of Encarsia Förster known from Australia are revised. This study is based mainly on material collected over the last 10 years. Ninety‐four species are recognized, including 38 new species, and seven new records for Australia. All species are fully described or diagnosed, and illustrated by microphotographs. Seven new specific synonymies are proposed and two lectotypes are designated. A key to the females of Australian species of Encarsia is provided. The known hosts and distribution are summarized. The diversity of the Australian Encarsia fauna is discussed.  相似文献

Two new species, Abaxisotima macrocaudata sp. nov. and Abaxisotima forcipiforma sp. nov., are described and illustrated, supplemental illustrations of several known species are provided. A key to species of the genus Abaxisotima Gorochov is presented. The type specimens are deposited in the Museum of Hebei University.  相似文献

The Argentine species of the genus Clinocentrus Haliday are revised. Two new species are described, Clinocentrus mamull sp. nov. and Clinocentrus roigi sp. nov., which represent the southernmost records of the genus in South America. Additionally Clinocentrus nigripectus Enderlein is redescribed and a key to known South American species is provided.  相似文献

Five species of Nephtyidae new to Australia are described from the North West Shelf, and a key to the 18 known species of Australian nephtyids is given. Four of the species described are new: three species of Aglaophamus (A. foliocirrata sp. nov., A. hedlandensis sp. nov. and A. victoriae sp. nov.) and a new species of Inermonephtys (I. tetrophthalmos sp. nov.). Difficulties in the clear definition of Aglaophamus, Micronephthys and Nephtys indicate the need for systematic revision of the family.  相似文献

Summary

The thysanopteran genus Cartomothrips Standard is revised with a key to the four species: browni Standard (= Treherniella niger Moulton syn. nov.), laughlini sp. nov., neboissi sp. nov. and manukae Stannard. Two species are known from Australia, one from New Zealand but the fourth is known from both countries. These thrips are apparently fungus-feeding, two being associated with the dead twigs of Leptospermum species. The significance of the distribution of these insects and their host plants on both sides of the Tasman Sea is discussed.  相似文献

The following three species of the genus Chaetogonopteron are described as new to science: Chaetogonopteron hungshuichiense, C. kaohsungense, C. taiwanense. A key to the known species of the genus from Taiwan is presented.  相似文献

Two new species of the freshwater planktonic copepod genusMastigodiaptomusM. maya and M. reidae—are described from material collected in southeastern Mexico. This neotropical genus is known to be distributed mainly in the southern part of the United States, Mexico and Central America, and now embraces eight species. Of these, six occur in Mexico. Both new species seem to be closely related to M. texensis and M. albuquerquensis. It is probable that this group of Mexican species represents a northwards radiation from the Proto-Antilles-Central America region into the continent, eventually reaching North America. A key for the identification of the known species of the genus is provided.  相似文献
