Some Effective Reading Strategies and Skills:Their Application to English Text Teaching in SSOT

I.Purpose of the Study In the essay,we hope to call the teachers' attention to the importance about reading and text teaching.Theoretically and practically,we have a try to introduce some effective strategies and skills.1.1.Introduction English learning is difficult for many Chinese learners.One of the major causes is that English and Chinese belong to different language systems.Another important cause is the fault of current methods that many teachers have been applying.In the process of text teaching,problems are mainly present in the following two aspects:One is that some teachers and students neglect the importance of reading;Another aspect is that text materials are utilized insufficiently,that is to say,enough reading strategies and skills are not applied in text teaching.     

Improving Learners'' Reading Skill in EFL Class

Topics around helping students to acquire the skill of reading have become increasingly popular in the discussion of foreign language teaching. In this paper, the author emphasizes the importance of improving learners＇ reading skill, presents the understanding of three factors concerning how to improve learners＇ reading comprehension in EFL class and then introduces a 90-minute lesson plan to illustrate the statements.     

Factors Affecting the Choice of Learning Strategies

Learners have been found to vary considerably in both the overall frequency with which they employ strategies and the particular types of strategies they use. Factors which affect the choice of the strategies are many: degree of awareness, stage of learning, task requirements, teacher expectations, age, general learning style, personality traits, motivation level, and purpose for learning the language. For example, highly motivated learners may use a greater range of appropriate strategies than less motivated ones do. Older learners may use different strategies than the younger ones in performing the same learning task. Therefore, an awareness of these factors is the key step to help learners to choose the strategies properly.     

Tackling Problems in Reading Efficiency

Reading is a complex、communicative process,which involves both linguistic and cognitive knowledge. The lack of either part will cause inefficiency. So,this paper deals with problems in reading efficiency in English study for college students in China. It analyzes the problems with regard to linguistic knowledge and cognitive schemata,emphasizing that solid linguistic foundation is the premise,and active communication skills are catalytic promoters while formal scientific training is necessary,and proposes some countermeasures on how to enhance the college student＇s reading efficiency.     

Practical Advice on Improve Students' Reading Ability

English reading has been considered as the most important part in college English teaching and has been paid much attention to.Improving students＇ reading ability has always been a focus in college English teaching,for the students will obtain the information conveyed in English mainly through reading.However,the teaching effect is not satisfactory.To train the students to get good reading levels is an important objective pursued by the teachers.This thesis will analyze the problems of the students ＇ reading,and give some practical advice on improve students ＇ reading ability.     

The Application of English New spaper Reading in English Learning and Its Problems

Reading is the basic way for learners to study English,to obtain various information as well as knowledge,and to improve the proficiency of understanding and expressing.English newspaper reading,owing to its own characteristics,will make up for the shortcomings of conventional textbooks at quite a high level.The primary goal of this research is to investigate the general situation of English newspaper reading among college students,their attitudes toward the teaching of English newspaper reading and their problems in reading newspapers by conducting a questionnaire among non-English majors.Finally,it suggests a reasonable method of English newspaper learning based on the problems this questionnaire indicates.     

The Application of Bottom-up and Top-down Processing in L2 Listening Comprehension

Listening comprehension is one of the four basic skills for language learning and is also one of the most difficult tasks L2 learners ever experienced.L2 listening comprehension is a cognitive process, in which listeners use both bottom-up and top-down processing to comprehend the aural text.The paper focuses on the application of the two approaches in L2 listening comprehension.

This paper concerns the importance of the cultivation of reading skills,the characteristics of intensive reading and how to cultivate the intensive reading skills.Since the focus of this papre is how to cultivate the intensive reading skills,we make a systematic exposition from three points:word study,grammar patterns and text.

Testing is a means of enabling quality of teachers’ teaching and acquisition of students’ language learning. 对非英语专业大学生的阅读元认知策略观念的调查分析

本调查分析运用MetacogintiveAwarenessofReadingStrategies量表对80位非英语专业的本科二年级学生进行了问卷调查。统计结果表明,阅读元认知策略观念与性别、现有英语水平无显著性相关。学习者除了支撑性阅读策略观念较弱,整体性阅读策略观念和问题索解性策略观念均较强。而且还发现支撑性策略观念能够较好地预测总体性策略观念,问题索解性策略观念和整体策略观念。这要求教师和学习者在教与学的过程中除了进行各项元认知策略的练习,还应特别重视支撑性策略的练习,以便取得有效的阅读效果。     

从认知心理学看外语阅读技巧

外语学习中的阅读行为可分为目的行为和手段行为,其中以获取文本信息为目标的目的行为对学习者今后的学习和工作均有影响,然而,学习者在这方面的阅读能力和阅读技巧还非常欠缺。笔者受认知心理学建构知觉和直接知觉理论的启发,通过分析比较两者的异同及侧重点,认为外语阅读可以采用与之相应的自上而下和自下而上的阅读方法,即借助文本环境结构和读者已有的知识体系作假设性阅读,以及从文本简单易理解的内容出发作由浅入深的阅读。

认知理论在英语泛读课上育人效用的启示

本文以现代教育理念为指导,以《英语泛读教程5（第二版）》的主要内容为基础,在认知语言学“体验观”的基础上,讨论了与传统泛读课不同的教学方法,即提高学生在育人中的主体性。希望这种新的教学方式能达到“既提高学生阅读能力又培养现代合格人才”的目的。
