Body weights in Han Chinese populations

The body weights of 26,954 Han Chinese adults in 67 areas （16,503 in rural areas and 10,451 in urban areas） across China were measured from 2009 to 2013. The results showed that in China, the three areas （north China, northeast China, and Jianghuai Plain） were with the greatest body weight. Northwest Hart Chinese populations were heavier. Southwestern dialect groups were at the middle level and lighter than northern Han Chinese populations, but were heavier among southern Han Chinese populations. Chinese Han who located in areas of Hangjiahu were the general level, and similar to south- western dialect groups. The mean values of body weight in Hunan Han and Fujian Han were greater than other Han groups in southern China. Gan dialect groups and Can- tonese dialect groups showed the minimum body weight value in all Chinese Han groups. Besides, the mean body weight of Hakka was heavier than Gan dialect groups and Cantonese dialect groups which were adjacent to Hakka. Body weight increases with an increase in height, bone diameter, subcutaneous fat on the limbs and trunk, chest circumference, and abdomen circumference. This study revealed that northern Han men were heavier than southern Hart men, because the former were taller and had a larger waist circumference as well as thicker subcutaneous fat on their backs. Among women, height, bone diameter of the upper limbs, chest and abdomen circumferences, and sub- cutaneous fat on the limbs and trunks of northern Hart exceeded those of rural southern Han. Consequently, body weight values of northern Han women were higher than those of southern Han women. While a significant differ- ence in these values was found between urban and rural men, no significant difference occurred between urban and rural women. Body weight was associated with age in urban and rural men only in the case of minority groups. Isolation and characterization of a new species of Vibrio-Vibrio olivaceus sp.nov. from diseased flounder （Paralichthys olivaceus temminck et schlegel）

One kind of pathogenic bacteria was isolated from diseased (or dead) flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus L.) which expressed bacterial septicaemia. The phenotyic information of the 10 pure cultures was studied extensively, including morphological characteristics, colony characteristics in different media, physiological and biochemical characteristics, and the mol%G C ratio of the DNA for representative strain. The results showed that the isolates belonged to a new species of Vibrio. In addition, the representative strains have been re-checked by China Center for Type Culture Collection (CCTCC), the results were the same as ours, the examined strains were also regarded as a new species of Vibrio, and designated as Vibrio olivaceus sp.nov. by its isolated fish (Paralichthys olivaceus) based on its biological properties following Rules of International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria. In the same time, we conducted studies on the serum homology of isolates, pathogenicity of isolates by experimental infection. The results showed that all the isolates were of serologic similarity and the isolates have strong pathogenicity to flounder. Inspection to pure cultures and isolates from liver of moribund fish from infection experiment by fluorescent antibody technique showed the feasibility of fluorescent antibody technique as an auxiliary method of examination.

Research on Vibration Properties of the Drill-punch Mechanism for Taphole Drill

A new type taphole drill was designed. The vibration properties of them drill-punch mechanism for the new type taphole drill were researched, the laws of its inherent characteristics were found. The measures to add punch amplitude and to reduce traverse vibration were put forward. The result showed that decreasing the frequency of vibration motors or increasing the stiffness of springs, and increasing excitation force can improve the vibration properties of the properties of the drill-punch mechanism.

Age and Sex Distribution of Patients with Vasovagal Syncope Undergoing Head-up Tilt Table Test: 7-Year Audit

To investigate age and sex distribution of vasovagal syncope (VVS) patients undergoing head-up tilt table test (HUTT) at a tertiary hospital. The details of syncope patients who underwent HUTT at our department of cardiac function from January 2004 to December 2010 were reviewed. Of the 1 799 patients who underwent the HUTT, 854 tested positive, of which 558 (65.3%) were women, which were more than the women in the negative group (450, 47.6%) (p<0.05). VVS patients showed a bimodal age distribution between 11 and 20 years of age and in the fourth decade. In almost all age groups, mixed response was the highest compared with vasodepressor and cardioinhibitory. VVS patients who underwent HUTT indicate bimodal distribution peaking before the second decade and the fourth decade. The incidence of females was twice that of males before the sixth decade, and old age occupies a small percentage of VVS with no other comorbidities.     

3-D Finite-Element Numerical Simulation of Centrifugal Induction Electrosalg Casting Solidification Process

A 3-D finite-element numerical simulation model of temperature field for CIESC casting solidification process was developed with the aid of ANSYS software and a series of corresponding experiments were made. The results showed that the good agreement was obtained between the numerical simulation and the experiments. Based on the numerical simulation results, the characteristics of temperature distribution in the castings during CIESC solidification process were analyzed and summarized. According to the G/R1/2 method and numerical simulation results, there is no any shrinkage defect in the CIESC casting and structure or casting is fine and compact.

To investigate the impact of an opening and joints with different inclination angles on the mechanical response behavior, the energy evolution characteristics, and distribution law of granite specimens, uniaxial loading tests were performed on the parallel jointed rock samples with an opening. Results indicated an initial decreasing trend of the strength and deformation parameters, which later increases with increased inclination angle, reaching minimum values when the inclination angle is 45°. Evolution curves of the elastic strain energy and dissipated energy with strain of the samples showed step-like gradual mutation characteristics. The peak total energy, peak elastic strain energy, peak dissipated energy, and total input energy during the failure of the samples showed significant nonlinear characteristics with increasing inclination angle. The opening and joints as well as the change of the inclination angle had significant influences on the proportion of the elastic strain energy of the samples prior to the peak, resulting in the difference of the distribution law of input energy. Moreover, the energy mechanism of the sample failure was discussed. Results showed that the energy release was the internal cause of the sudden destruction of the entire rock mass.
