Résumé Dans les feuilles des agrumes, l'activité de la péroxidase baisse dès qu'il existe une carence en Fe, tandis que la carence en Mn la fait augmenter. L'essai chronométrique de péroxidase effectué sur les disques des feuilles rend visible ces différences. Les effets opposés de deux carences ont été démontrés aussi au niveau des isozymes dans des extraits de feuilles en employant le gel de polyacrylamide en électrophorèse.     

Bovine TSH-stimulation of fish thyroid peroxidase activity and role of thyroxine thereon

Summary bTSH augmented the fish thyroid peroxidase activity in a dose-response manner. Thyroxine could not modulate the effect of exogenous bTSH, but it decreased the peroxidase activity in a control system when administered alone. The data therefore suggest similar negative feedback control system for TSH-regulation as operative in the case of mammals.Acknowledgment. We are thankful to Prof. A. B. The physiological and nutritional importance of dietary fibre

Summary Fibrous material is an integral part of the daily diet, and it exerts direct physiological effects throughout the gastrointestinal tract, in addition to affecting metabolic activities more indirectly. The interplay of these effects is responsible for the presumed desirable influence of fibre on weight regulation, carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, and on colon function. Numerous mechanisms of action have been identified which are related to the type and the physicochemical nature of the fibre. This review concentrates mainly on the serum cholesterol-lowering effect of dietary fibre, its colonic fermentation, and finally on some possible adverse effects that one should be aware of when consuming high amounts of dietary fibre.     

In vivo effects of Sumithion on tissue respiration and enzyme activity in the fish,Etroplus maculatus

Summary LD₅₀ exposure of a teleost fish.Etroplus maculatus, to Sumithion depressed the rate of oxygen consumption, concomitantly with an inhibition in succinate dehydrogenase activity in the tissues, in the order gill>brain>liver>muscle. The effect of the same pesticide on the activity of acetylcholinesterase was quite interesting, with a maximal inhibitory effect on the brain followed by liver, muscle and gill, suggesting a tissue specificity, and a differential sensitivity of the enzyme towards the pesticide.I wish to express may gratitude to Dr K. In vitro demonstration of seasonal transition effect on acetylcholine liberation from Auerbach's plexus of non-hibernator

Summary Acetylcholine release from Auerbach's plexus of guinea-pig ileum, in vitro, both spontaneous and evoked by field-stimulation, responds to the seasonal transition from the spring to close to the beginning of summer. It did not change during the summer, however, tended to be higher than during the initial period (3 weeks after the beginning of spring).The research was done at New York State Res. Inst. for Neurochemistry and Drug Addict., Ward's Island, New York, and was supported in part with personal fund.
