Summary A dissociation between inhibition of RNA synthesis and cell lysis was observed when thymocytes of adrenalectomized rats were incubated with high concentrations of pregn-4-ene-11-ol-3, 20-dione and pregna-1,4-diene-11-ol-3,20-dione. In contrast, no dissociation of these effects was found with the typical glucocorticoids cortisol and corticosterone, nor with their 1,4-diene analogs under the same conditions.Acknowledgments. Defensive steroids from a carrion beetle (Silpha americana)   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Summary The defensive anal effluent discharged bySilpha americana in response to disturbance contains a mixture of steroids stemming from a glandular annex of the rectum. The compounds have been characterized as 15-hydroxyprogesterone (1, principal component), 5-pregnan-15-ol-3, 20-dione (2), 5-pregnan-3, 15-diol-20-one (3), 5-pregnan-7, 15-diol-3,20-dione (4), 5-pregnan-3, 7, 15-triol-20-one (5), 5-pregnan-16-ol-3,20-dione (6), and 5-pregnan-3, 16-diol-20-one (7), none previously found in insects. Bioassays with jumping spiders showed compounds1 and6 to be feeding deterrents at the 1 g level.Paper No. 78 of the series: Defense Mechanisms of Arthropods. The aquatic bugAbedus herberti (Hemiptera: Belostomatidae) secretes a mixture containing four pregnanes (desoxycorticosterone (I), pregnenolone (II), progesterone (III), and 3-hydroxy-pregn-5-en-20-one (IV)) from its cephalic glands. Pregnanes had previously been characterized from the defensive glands of aquatic beetles (Dytiscidae) and shown to be deterrent to fish. It may be specifically under predation pressure from fish thatA. herberti and Dytiscidae evolved their comparable defenses.  相似文献

Summary Five unusual amino acids were identified as antimutagens against spontaneous mutation ofSalmonella typhimurium TA100: L-azetidine-2-carboxylic acid (1) from Liliaceae plants, -(methylenecyclopropyl)glycine (2) fromLitchi chinensis seeds, and 2-amino-4-methylhex-5-ynoic acid (3), hypoglycin A (4), and (2S, 4R)-2-amino-4-hydroxyhept-6-ynoic acid (5) fromEuphoria longana seeds. Summary Embryonic chick bones were cultured in vitro in the presence of progesterone and of a series of progesterone metabolites. It was found that only 5-pregnane-3,20-dione, 3-hydroxy-5-pregnane-20-one, and 4-pregnene-20-ol-3-one influence the growth of bones in vitro in a manner similar to progesterone. All other investigated progesterone metabolites exert either a different or no demonstrable action on bone growth.  相似文献

Summary 5-pregnane 11, 17, 21-triol 3, 20-dione (dihydrocortisol) has been isolated and identified in the urine of patients with feminizing adrenal cortical cancer. This steroid showed the same Rf as synthetic dihydrocortisol in six different chromatographic systems. After acetylation, its Rf was the same as that of 21 monoacetate of dihydrocortisol. After bismuthic or chromic oxydation, it had the same chromatographic Rf as 5-androstane 11-ol 3, 17-dione and 5-androstane 3, 11, 17-trione respectively. After chromic oxydation of its acetate, the Rf was the same as that of 21 monoacetate of cortisone.  相似文献

Besides the known sarmentogenin 3-O--D-allopyranoside (1) and digitoxigenin-3-O-[-D-xylopyranosyl-(14)-2, 3-di-O-acetyl--D-allopyranoside] (4), four new cardiac glycosides (2, 3, 5 and6) have been isolated from the defensive glands of adults ofChrysolina fuliginosa. The structures of the new compounds were determined by1H NMR at 600 MHz and FABMS. Compounds1–6, present in the adults ofC. fuliginosa, have also been identified in the eggs.  相似文献

Summary (E)-3-Formylbut-2-enenitrile (4) is synthesized in 2 steps by reacting pyruvaldehyde dimethylacetal and acetonitrile in the presence of sodium methoxide, followed by acid hydrolysis to give 58% overall yield on distillation. The aldehyde4 can be stepwise and selectively reduced to (E)-3-hydroxymethylbut-2-enylamine (7a) in 37% total yield or exhaustivelyb reduced in 1 step to (±)-4-hydroxy-3-methylbutylamine (6) in 46% total yield. Compound7a and6 can be condensed with 6-chloropurine to give zeatin and (±)dihydrozeatin respectively. Summary Three new furan fatty acids, (9Z, 19Z)-3, 6-epoxyhexacosa-3,5,19-tetraenoic acid (1a), (8Z, 11Z, 14Z, 17Z)-3, 6-epoxyeicosa-3,5,8,11,14,17-hexaenoic acid (2a), and (8Z, 11Z, 14Z, 17E)-3, 6-epoxyeicosa-3,5,8,11,14,17-hexaenoic acid (3a), and a new polyunsaturated fatty acid (5Z, 8Z, 11Z, 14Z, 17E)-eicosa-5,8,11,14,17-pentaenoic acid (6a), present in the spongeDictyonella incisa as the respective steryl esters, have been isolated as methyl esters and their structures have been determined by spectral and chemical analysis. The furan fatty acid esters have shown a high inflammatory activity, which suggests their potential role as feeding deterrents.  相似文献

The composition of the Dufour gland of the antC. scutellaris has been reinvestigated by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. The major components of the gland are (2E,5E,12Z)-4-oxoheneicosa-2,5,12-trien-1-ol acetate (1a) its 14 and 16 double bond isomers (1b and1c), and the corresponding (Z,Z)-dienes5a and5b, all containing an acetylated C21 chain. The previously proposed structures1d, 1e, and5c, which are based on an homologous acetylated C23 chain, correspond to minor derivatives present in the gland. Traces of acetylated C19 homologs, tentatively identified as1g-1i, have also been found. The Dufour gland contents of the two other EuropeanCrematogaster species have also been studied.C. auberti is very similar toC. scutellaris in producing mainly1a, 1b and1c, together with the same higher and lower homologs, but it lacks the dienic derivatives5, whereasC. sordidula contains essentially the acetylated C19 compounds1g, 1h, and1i, accompanied by acetylated C17 homologs.  相似文献

Summary Reduction of the ketal II of 7-keto-1,4-dimethoxy-4b-methyl-5, 6, 7, 9, 10-hexahydrophenanthrene with lithium in liquid ammonia furnishes a corresponding dihydro derivative, from which a tricyclic triketone, m.p. 121°, is obtained upon acid hydrolysis. This triketone is identical with the recently described antitrans-4b-methyl-1, 2, 3, 4, 4a, 4b, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 10-dodecahydro-phenanthrene-1, 4, 7-trione III and thus conforms to the stereochemistry of the natural steroids.  相似文献

Two new cytotoxic antitumor diterpenoids of the cembrane class, named 14-deoxycrassin (3) and pseudoplexaurol (4), have been isolated from the Caribbean gorgonian octocoralPseudoplexaura porosa. Isometachromin (1), a new sesquiterpene-quinone that is related structurally to metachromin C (2), and the known compounds ilimaquinone (3) and and 5-epi-ilimaquinone (4), were isolated from a deep water sponge in the family Spongiidae; the structure of isometachromin was elucidated by spectral methods. Isometachromin exhibits in vitro cytotoxicity against the human lung cancer cell line A 549 (IC50=2.6 g/ml), but not against P 388 murine leukemia (IC5010 g/ml) and also exhibits antimicrobial activity.This research is Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution (HBOI) contribution number 911. Summary The phenylpropylamine fraction ofCatha edulis FORSK. grown in Kenya has been investigated. The major components have been found to be (S)-(–)--aminopropiophenone (1), (+)-norpseudoephedrine (2) and(–)-norephedrine (3). Quantitative ratios of1, 2, 3 in tissues of different age are discussed.

Summary A report is given of the reductive ether cleavage of 6, 19-oxido-4-androsten-3, 17-dione by zinc amalgam in isopropanol. The general usefulness of this method was demonstrated by the synthesis of 19-hydroxy-4-cholesten-3-one from 6, 19-oxido-4-cholesten-3-one.  相似文献

Summary For the first time we have isolated a major psychoactive cannabinoid, (3R, 4R)- 1(6)-tetrahydrocannabinol3 from callus cultures ofCannabis sativa L.3 was obtained as an artefact of the actually formed (3R, 4R)- 1-tetrahydrocannabinol-3- and/or 5-carboxylic acids1 and2 by subjecting the culture material to a decarboxylation step prior to extraction. No attempt was made to isolated acids1 and2. The identity of3 was confirmed by comparison with an authentic sample of (3R, 4R)- 1-tetrahydrocannabinol. Culture conditions, isolation procedure and identification of the cannabinoid are described.Acknowledgment. The authors are greatly indebted to Dr W. Heller and Dr G.
