(1)Mus (Leggada) bufo Th. shows the primitive complement already detected in other species or subspecies (minutoides ssp ₁,indutus, tenellus, setulosus): 2N=36,N.F.=36, sex chromosomesPR. (2) The deletion of the short arm of oneX-chromosome (X _dc ) was previously observed as heterozygous mutation by 4 in a sample of 7 and 5 . A more important sample (18 , 21 ) gives the following results: 11 X-X, 10 X-X _dc , 18 X-Y. The occurrence of X _dc -X _dc and of X _dc -Y is also very improbable. It is not easy to understand how the chromosomeX _dc may persist in the population if the complementsX _dc -X _dc andX _dc -Y are lethal, which seems to result from these observations.

Summary On the basis of comparative chemical and spectral data, the structure of the major saponin, luzonicoside, from the starfishEchinaster luzonicus has been elucidated as2. This is a further example of a novel class of steroidal cyclic glycoside from starfish of the genusEchinaster. Its structure includes a ⁷, 3,6-dioxygenated-23-oxosteroidal moiety, already found in the saponins ofEchinaster sepositus, and a trisaccharide moiety, -D-galactopyranosyl-(12) -L-arabinopyranosyl-(12)--D-glucuronopyranosyl, bridging C-3 and C-6 of the steroid.This contribution is part of the Progetto Finalizzato Oceanografia e Fondi Marini del C.N.R., Roma.Acknowledgments. Zusammenfassung 4-C¹⁴-Testosteron wurde durch Mäuseplazenta in vitro zu Steroiden umgesetzt: 3-Hydroxy-5-androstan-3, 17-dion, 3-Hydroxy-5-androstan-3, 17-dion, 4-Androsten-3, 17-dion und 5-Androstan-3, 17-dion. Eine Umsetzung von Testosteron zu Östrogenen wurde nicht nachgewiesen.     

Isomeric homoallylic cations formed from 19-substituted steroids

Zusammenfassung Die Existenz von zwei verschiedenen isomeren Homoallylkationen in der Umlagerung von Steroid- ⁵-19-Methansulfonsäure-Estern zu 5, 19-cyclo-6-hydroxylierten Steroiden und deren Umlagerung zu ⁵(¹⁰)-B-homo-7-hydroxylierten Steroiden wurde bewiesen, und eine neue Art der Homoallylumlagerung eines ⁵(¹⁰)-B-homo-7-hydroxylierten Steroids zum 5, 6-Methano-9-en und zum 5, 6-Methano-10-ol wurde beobachtet.

Zusammenfassung (1) Es wurde bei den SeeigelartenParacentrotus ,Arbacia undSphaerechinus sowie den drei BastardenPar ×Arb ,Arb ×Par undPar ×Sphaer für eine Reihe von Entwicklungsstadien die Anzahl der Kerne pro Keim bestimmt (Tabelle). Der morphogenetischen Hemmung der Bastarde entsprechen herabgesetzte Kernzahlen und parallel eine Herabsetzung der DNS-Synthese. (2) Es wurde bei den genannten reinen Arten und den Bastarden derUmsatz der RNS bestimmt. Er geht in allen Fällen, bei den reinen Arten wie bei den Bastarden, der DNS- Synthese parallel.

Identification of a major cytokinin in coconut milk

A major cytokinin found in coconut milk was isolted by using the tobacco callus growth-promoting assay as a guide during purification. The structure of the factor was determined to be 14-O-{3-O-[-d-galactopyranosyl-(12)--d--galactopyranosyl-(13)--L-arabinofuranosyl]-4-O-(-L-arabinofuranosyl)--d-galactopyranosyl}-trans-zeatin riboside [G₃A₂-ZR] by various NMR techniques, including heteronuclear multiple bond connectivity by 2D multiple quantum NMR (HMBC), as well as mass spectroscopy and sugar analysis. The optimum concentration of G₃A₂-ZR for cytokinin activity in the tobacco callus assay was estimated to be 5×10^–6 M, so that G₃A₂-ZR is one order of magnitude more potent than 1,3-diphenylurea and one order less potent than zeatin riboside. At least 20% of the cytokinin activity of coconut milk could be attributed to G₃A₂-ZR.
