Highly purified noradrenaline storage vesicles from bovine splenic nerve trunk: Preliminary electron microscopy

Résumé Les vésicules de la NA du nerf splénique de Buf ont été obtenues par gradient de centrifugation («sucrose-heavy water»), Le rapport NA/protéine observé est de 4 à 7 fois plus élevé que celui qui a été mentionné précédemment. L'examen préliminaire de cette fraction, par microscopie électronique, révèle une couche importante et pratiquement pure de vésicules à la surface du sédiment.

Reserpine-induced depletion of gastric vitamin B12-binding proteins in the rat

Zusammenfassung Reserpin mobilisiert Histamin und den «Intrinsic factor» aus dem Rattenmagen. Eine trunkuläre Vagotomie hebt diese Wirkung von Reserpin auf. Reserpin hat keinen Effekt auf den «Intrinsic factor» des Magens von Maus, Hamster, Meerschweinchen und Kaninchen.

Occurrence of trichochromes in the urine of a melanoma patient

Immunosuppressive effect of a mouse placenta fraction on H-2 incompatible split heart allografts

Summary A soluble placenta fraction from mice (A.CA) mated with H-2 histoincompatible males (A/Sn) significantly prolonged the survival of heterotopic A/Sn heart transplants in A.CA recipients. No prolongation of A/Sn heart graft survival was obtained with the corresponding A.CA placenta fraction after A.CA × A.CA mating.The work was supported by the Danish Medical Research Council (Project No. 512-3088).     

Improved separation at low temperature of glycoproteins by Con A-Sepharose affinity chromatography in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)

Summary The Con A-Sepharose affinity chromatography of glycoproteins was even more effective at 4°C than that at room temperature (26–28°C) in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). Application of this methodology to the seperation of several glycoproteins from SDS-solubilized membrane proteins in rat cerebellum, including a glycoprotein characteristics of the Purkinje cells, was sucessful.Acknowledgments. Zusammenfassung Nach Injektion (Mesenterialarterie) einer Mischung zweier Blutproben — die eine mit Methämoglobin, die andere mit Sauerstoff markiert — erscheint der Sauerstoff 1–2 sec früher in der Mesenterialvene als die mit Methämoglobin markierten Erythrozyten. Die Existenz eines Gegenstromaustausches in den Darmzotten der Katze scheint damit bewiesen zu sein.

Collagen breakdown by gingival collagenase and elastase

Summary The granule fraction of human polymorphonuclear leucocytes (PMNs), the concentrated product of gingival washing from 2 human volunteers and the culture fluid of samples of human gingiva were incubated with neutral salt soluble collagen from rat skin and the patterns of collagen degradation were studied by SDS polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Collagenase from human gingiva cleaved the collagen molecules in a fashion similar to that of the PMN granule fraction. Collagen was also attacked by elastase from human PMNs and, to a lesser extent, by elastase from the gingival washings.Supported by a grant of Swiss National Fund for Scientific Research No. 3.604.0.75.Acknowledgments. A new model of glucocorticoid-induced metanephric maldevelopment

Summary A new experimental model of glucocortocoid-induced tubular cyst formation has been developed in metanephric organ culture. The addition of cortisol (1.4×10^–5 M) to chemically defined serum-free culture medium produces cystic changes during in vitro nephrogenesis. The model isolates the role of glucocorticoids in experimental cyst formation.Acknowledgment. Interaction of polyamines or their precursors with the calcium-controlled secretion of peroxidase by sugarbeet cells

Summary Three polyamines tested (cadaverine, spermidine and spermine) and their 2 precursors (the amino acids arginine and ornithine) inhibit the Ca²⁺-mediated secretion of peroxidases by sugarbeet cells in suspension culture at concentrations ranging from 10^–15 to 10^–5M. In the absence of exogenous Ca²⁺, spermine added at higher concentrations mimics the activatory effect of Ca²⁺, the other polyamines being without effect.Supported by the Belgian FRFC (grant No. 2.9009.75 to T.G.) and the Swiss National Foundation for Scientific Research (grant No. 3.140-0.81 to C.P. and H.G.).     

Magnetic and photic responses in snails

Zusammenfassung Das Ausmass, in dem sich die SchneckeNassarius obsoleta asymmetrischem Licht zuwendet, ist einer früher beschriebenen Orientierungsreaktion übergeordnet, die selbst bei symmetrischer Beleuchtung eintritt. Ausserdem lässt diese Lichtreaktion eine physiologische Asymmetrie erkennen, die durch ein schwaches magnetisches Feld geändert werden kann.

Fine structure of modiffied phtoreceptor cells in the pineal of the gobyClevelandia ios (Pisces: Gobiidae)
