Conclusions The decrease of circulating blood volume, resulting in oligemic hypotension, may evoke in anaesthetized cat the active constrictory coronary vessel responses of 2 types, one occuring immediately after start of the hypotension and the other having a significantly prolonged latency.

Identification and possible biological relevance of spermatozoal transglutaminase

Summary Normal human spermatozoa were demonstrated by dot immunoblot analysis and immunohistochemistry to possess transglutaminase (TGase). The immunological identification of spermatozoal TGase is consistent with reports by others of its biochemical identification and suggested role in sperm motility,and provides, in view of the immunoregulatory properties of seminal plasma TGase, presumptive identification of a means whereby spermatozoa, under normal physiological conditions, may possibly be protected from immunological attack within the female reproductive tract.

Suppression of delayed type hypersensitivity of mice by lead

Summary Application of lead suppressed the delayed type hypersensitivity (DTH) of mice induced by sheep red blood cells (SRBC). Inhibition of elicitation of DTH in primary as well as in secondary response was correlated with the concentration of lead in the blood of the mice.Acknowledgments. Hoplonemertine worms—a new source of pyridine neurotoxins

Summary Two pyridine bases were isolated from the marine hoplonemertineAmphiporus angulatus (Fabricius) and identified by mass and PMR-spectroscopy as 2,3-bipyridyl and 3,2; 3,2; 4,3'-tetrapyridyl (Nemertelline). Nemertelline, the first tetrapyridyl natural product to be reported, shows a structural resemblance to the tobacco constituent nicotelline. The crustacean toxicity of 2,3-bipyridyl is very similar to that of nicotine, but its mammalian toxicity is negligible.We thank DoctorsN. Meinkoth andN. Riser for collecting specimens, Dr.F. A postsynaptic α, 2-receptor: The alpha-adrenergic receptor of hamster white fat cells

Summary The effects of selected -agonists and -antagonists on theophylline-induced lipolysis were investigate in isolated hamster white fat cells ₂-Agonists (tramazoline, clonidine) inhibited theophylline-induced lipolysis while an ₂-agonist (methoxamine) was without any effect. The inhibitory effect of ₂-agonists was suppressed by yohimbine (₂-antagonist), whereas ₂-antagonists were inefficient. This result implies that the -adrenergic receptor of hamster fat cells is of the ₂-type, although located postsynaptically.Acknowledgments.
