Summary On treatment of 3-hydroxy-5-steroids with lead tetra-acetate formation of 3, 9-oxides is observed. The yields of this ring closure reaction decrease significantly in the order 11-keto, ^{9, 11}-ene and ring-C saturated compounds.

Summary 5- and 5-androstane-17-ol-3-one-17-acetate have been prepared from 5-androstane-6, 17-diol-3-one-17-acetate by a synthesis involving directedHuang-Minlon-reduction.Separation of 5-androstane-17-ol-3-one from its 5-isomer could readily be achieved by crystallisation of their 3-ethylenketals from acetone.     

Über die Ausscheidung von 3β-Hydroxy-17-Ketosteroiden im Harn von Meerschweinchen

Summary 11-hydroxy-epiandrosterone was isolated and identified from urine of normal untreated female guinea pigs. After cold and hot acid hydrolysis of the urine, we found another 3-hydroxy-17-oxosteroid. Its character was investigated by several methods and we suppose this steroid is9(11)-epiandrosterone, an artificial product of 11-hydroxy-epiandrosterone.     

Identification of 3α, 17α, 21-trihydroxy-5α-pregnane (allotetrahydro-17α-hydroxy-cortexone) and 3α,21-dihydroxy-5α-pregnane (allo-tetrahydro-cortexone) in human urine

Résumé Le 3, 17, 21-trihydroxy 5-pregnane (allo-tétrahydro-17-hydroxy-cortexone) et le 3,21-dihydroxy 5-prégane (allo-tétrahydro-cortexone) ont été identifiés dans l'urine humaine. Ces composés avaient les mêmes migrations chromatographiques avant ou après acétylation ou oxydation que les respectifs stéroïdes de synthèse.

Zusammenfassung Die Mandibulardrüsen der Honigbienen-Arbeiterinnen enthalten 10-Hydroxy-²-decensäure. Es wird angenommen, dass diese Drüsen die Quelle der im Weisel- und Arbeiterinnenlarvenfutter vorkommenden 10-Hydroxy-²-decensäure sind.     

Characterization of 17β-estradiol 3-(β-D-glucopyranoside) and 17-(α-D-glucopyranoside) as the metabolites of 17β-estradiol in the cultured ovaries of the silkworm,Bombyx mori

Summary The structures of the metabolites formed upon incubation of 17-estradiol with the ovaries of silkworm,Bombyx mori, have been determined as 17-estradiol 3-(-D-glucopyranoside) (1) and 17-(-D-glucopyranoside) (2) by spectroscopic means.

Summary The occurrence of cortisol, cortisone, 20-dihydrometabolites of cortisone and several other steroidlike compounds in fresh placental tissue is described. Neither aldosterone, corticosterone nor 11-dehydrocorticosterone has been found. One of the most abundant compounds present has been identified as 16-hydroxy-testosterone.

Ersatz vonβ-Indolyl-Essigsäure imβ-Karotin-Test durch Vitamin E (dl-α-Tocopherol) und Vitamin K (Roche 1-6722)

Résumé Le carotène empêche la germination des grains de pollen deCyclamen persicum Mill. Il est possible de transformer cet effet en une stimulation en ajoutant-indole-acétique-acide (concentration 50 mg/l). La substance elle-même n'a aucune influence sur la germination du pollen.Cet effet nous permet de déterminer des auxines qualitativement (test du carotène). Par cette méthode on a prouvé que la vitamine E (dl--tocophérole) et la vitamine K (Roche 1-6722) peuvent remplacer IAA. La substancedl--tocophérole empêche la germination du pollen deCyclamen persicum, la vitamine K n'a aucune influence.     

Das polarographische Verhalten von Ti(III) und Ti(IV) in Äthylendiamintetraazetat

Summary Ti(III) and Ti(IV) form complexes, at pH values of under 2.5, with ethylene di-amino-tetra-acetate (Y^–4) with the probable formula TiY^– and TiY, which are reduced reversibly and independantly of pH at the dropping Hg-electrode. Temporary values are given for the dissociation constants. At higher pH values, the electrode processes are irreversible and dependant on Ph. From this fact, and from the decrease in wave height, the presence of complexes containing oxygen and numerous nuclei is concluded.

Isolement et identification du 5β-prégnane 11β, 17α, 21-triol 3, 20-dione (Dihydrocortisol) dans l'urine humaine

Summary 5-pregnane 11, 17, 21-triol 3, 20-dione (dihydrocortisol) has been isolated and identified in the urine of patients with feminizing adrenal cortical cancer. This steroid showed the same Rf as synthetic dihydrocortisol in six different chromatographic systems. After acetylation, its Rf was the same as that of 21 monoacetate of dihydrocortisol. After bismuthic or chromic oxydation, it had the same chromatographic Rf as 5-androstane 11-ol 3, 17-dione and 5-androstane 3, 11, 17-trione respectively. After chromic oxydation of its acetate, the Rf was the same as that of 21 monoacetate of cortisone.

Summary The sterol fraction from leaves of the potato plant,Solanum tuberosum, was found to contain a minor constituent, the structure of which has been established as 4-methyl-5-stigmasta-7,24(28)-diene-3-ol (I). This sterol is most probably identical with ₁-sitosterol and has the same constitution as citrostadienol, differing only in the configuration of the ^{24 (28)}-double bond.

Untersuchung von Adenosintriphosphorsäure (ATP), Adenosindiphosphorsäure (ADP), Adenosinmonophosphorsäure (AMP) und Inosinsäure (IMP) in ruhenden und kontrahierten Froschrektusmuskeln

Summary A method for the estimation of muscle nucleotides is described. The separation of nucleotides has been accomplished by paper ionophoresis at high voltages, as well as by paper chromatography. Even little changes in the nucleotide content such as the changes in a single muscular contraction can be well observed by this method.A decrease of 0.25 µ M ATP/g/contraction (i.e. about of the normal ATP content) has been observed in a contracted muscle, when compared with the ATP content of the resting muscle.     

Identification du glucosiduronate de 5β-pregnane 3α, 21-diol 20-one (THDOC) après administration de cortexone

Summary After administration of cortexone to a normal man, we isolated the 5-pregnana 3, 21-diol 20-one glucuronide in human urine. We found 90% of this corticosteroid in the glucuronide fraction; the remaining 10% was in the free fraction.We found neither the cortexone nor its metabolites dior tetrahydrogenated in the ester-sulphate fraction.The tetrahydrocortexone-glucuronide was identified by paper chromatography and by electrophoresis.     

Metabolism of 3β-hydroxycholest-5-en-26-oic acid in hamsters

Summary Metabolism of 26-hydroxycholesterol to 3-hydroxychol-5-en-24-oic acid and other C24-bile acids has been expected to occur by way of 3-hydroxycholest-5-en-26-oic acid in studies in vitro. 3-Hydroxycholest-5-en-26-oic acid was infused intravenously into bile fistula hamsters and the following C24-bile acids were identified: 3-hydroxychol-5-en-24-oic acid, lithocholic acid, chenodeoxycholic acid, and a small amount of cholic acid.

Summary In the pure state 2-methyl-4-benzal-oxazolone-5 and 2-benzyl-4-benzal-oxazolone-5 are both colourless. The yellow 2-methyl-azlactone prepared by azlactone synthesis is contaminated with 2-styryl-4-benzal-oxazolone-5 which has obviously been formed from the 2-methyl-azlactone with excess benzaldehyde in an additional condensation reaction.

Summary D-lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD 25) has a characteristic effect on the chromatophores of the female fish guppy (Poecilia reticulatus). This effect can be prevented by prophylactic administration of 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin, enteramine).

I risultati ottenuti dall'A. dimostrano che la diossifenilalanina può antagonizzare il potenziamento della narcosi barbiturica indotto dal 5-idrossitriptafano.

Summary The utilization of sulphate labelled with S³⁵ to the synthesis of chondroitin sulphate of the cartilage of normal and scorbutic guinea pigs has been examined. The average incorporation of S³⁵ in the costal cartilage in the deficient animal was about one half that of the normal.
